The Minnesota Wild were up 2-1 against the St. Louis Blues but gave up the tying goal at 14:27 of the third period, then lost in the third round of a shootout Saturday night at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Blues goaltender Jake Allen stopped Zach Parise, Mikko Koivu and Jason Pominville in the shootout, but Niklas Backstrom couldn’t keep the snap shot from Vladimir Tarasenko out of the net, NHL.com reports.
Tarasenko also scored in the second period to give St. Louis the early lead.
Minnesota tied the score 4:26 later when a wide-open Koivu beat Blues goaltender Jake Allen for his third goal of the season and the first in a month.
Parise then scored on a power play with 59 seconds remaining in the period – his first power-play goal this season, to make the score 2-1.
David Backes of the Blues tied the game at 14:27 of the third period after Ryan Suter turned over the puck.
The Blues have now defeated the Wild 10 times in their last 11 meetings, according to the Star Tribune.
Earlier in the evening, the Wild announced it had signed defenseman Marco Scandella to a five-year contract extension worth a reported $20 million.
