The Minnesota Wild lost 3-2 to the Detroit Red Wings Saturday afternoon at the Xcel Energy Center, the team’s first regulation loss at home since Jan. 14, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
The Wild have now lost seven of their past nine games. They fell to 23-8-5 at home this season, and also failed to build on their lead in the playoff race with 11 games remaining, according to the Pioneer Press.
Gustav Nyquist, the Red Wings’ up-and-coming star, scored the winning goal with five minutes to go in the third period, the Star Tribune reports. The Wild’s young star Charlie Coyle had tied the game on his first career penalty shot 15 seconds into the period.
The Wild and Red Wings close out the home-and-home series Sunday night in Detroit.
