The Wild signed defenseman and former Gopher hockey standout Mike Reilly to a two-year extension worth $1.45 million on Monday. Reilly’s contract is a one-way deal and it’s likely he’ll get a good look at making the team out of training camp
The 23-year-old has struggled to find a role with the Wild, playing in just 17 and 29 games over the last two seasons respectively. He’s spent the majority of his professional career at the AHL level, leading the Iowa Wild in points (30) and shots (129) last year.
With Marco Scandella traded to Buffalo, Reilly and Gustav Olofsson will be battling it out for the third and final pairing on Minnesota’s blue line.
During his time at the University of Minnesota, Reilly anchored the Gophers power play, putting up 36 points during his final season at the U of M.

Over the weekend, the Gophers signed Reilly’s former teammate Kyle Rau to a one-year, two-way contract. Rau who played his last three seasons in the Florida Panthers organization, was the captain of the Gopher men’s hockey team from 2013-2015.
Reilly and Rau will also be joined by another Gophers standout in Justin Kloos – a former captain who signed as an undrafted free agent in March.
