The Minnesota Wild agreed to terms Monday with Minnesota State-Mankato defenseman Zach Palmquist and Vermont goaltender Brody Hoffman.
Palmquist, 24, played in an MSU-Mankato record 160 consecutive games during his collegiate career. The South St. Paul native finished this season fourth on the Mavericks in scoring with 8 goals and 21 assists.
The Mavericks were the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament but lost in heartbreaking fashion Saturday to 16-seed Rochester Institute of Technology.
Palmquist was involved the game-deciding play, a controversial play in which he was either pushed or fell into his own goalie. When the goalie toppled over, RIT took a shot and scored the game-winning goal. Minnesota State head coach Mike Hastings thought Palmquist was pushed, but the referees didn’t see it the same way and the goal was allowed to stand.

Hoffman, 24, went 13-6-2 with a 2.06 goals-against average a .922 save percentage as a junior this season for Vermont.
Both players signed one-year entry-level contracts. Hoffman won’t play for the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League; Palmquist will report to Iowa on an amateur tryout, the Star Tribune reports.
