The Minnesota Wild earned their first shoot out victory of the season on Saturday as they defeated Carolina 3-2.
Jason Pominville put the Wild up early 1-0 his 11th goal of the season. It was a short-lived lead for Minnesota though as just over a minute later the Hurricanes tied the game up.
It stayed that way into the second period when Jiri Tlusty beat Josh Harding for his third goal of the season, putting Carolina up 2-1.
Minnesota bounced back to pull even as Justin Fontaine scored for the Wild to even the score at two, half way through the second period.
There was no scoring the rest of the way, until the shootout.
Harding continued to play well for the Wild in net. He stopped 28 of 30 shots on the night.
Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu both opened the shootout with goals. Harding got a stop on Carolina’s Riley Nash before Chris Terry scored on the second try.
It was all up to Pominville again, and when he beat Justin Peters to give the Wild their first shootout victory of the season.
