The Minnesota Wild continue to play very solid, if not exceptional hockey, the latest of which came from Xcel Energy Center in tonight’s 4-0 win over the New Jersey Devils.
Earlier in the day, Wild left wing Zach Parise, who played his whole career with the Devils before signing with Minnesota, said he wasn’t worried about playing his old squad, though he did say he would be nervous. He didn’t find the back of the net, but did assist on Minnesota’s second goal provided by Torrey Mitchell.
Mikael Granlund opened the scoring for Minnesota, while Dany Heatley added one in the third, as did Jason Pominville on an empty-net, his sixth goal in his last four games.
Josh Harding was once again brilliant in net, stopping 19 Devils’ shots, looking 100 percent after returning from a hamstring injury Friday.
The Wild were without Charlie Coyle, who re-injured his knee after also returning Friday. It is not expected to be a serious setback, but right wing Carson McMillan was recalled from Iowa to take his spot while the knee is assessed. Mcmillan played eight-plus minutes, blocking two shots.
Minnesota has now won five of their last six.
The Wild are back to the ice Tuesday against Calgary, a 7 p.m. puck drop from the X.
