Jonas Brodin, 19, is not on the list of finalists for the Calder Trophy, according to the Star Tribune.
The award honors the NHL’s top rookie. Instead, the finalists are Montreal’s Brendan Gallagher, Florida’s Johnathan Huberdeau and Chicago’s Brandon Saad.
Brodin is the youngest defenseman in the NHL, paired most of the season with veteran Ryan Suter.
In the regular season, Brodin led all rookies in average ice time per game (23:12), and in the playoffs is fifth among all players (28:54).
Time on ice, however, doesn’t seem to be as coveted as points scored. Gallagher had 15 goals and 28 points in 44 games for the Canadiens, according to NBCSports.com. Huberdeau had 31 points in 48 games for the Panthers.
