The streaking Minnesota Wild should get even better tonight when they play the Calgary Flames when Charlie Coyle jumps back on the top line with Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu.
The 21-year-old forward has played in only three games this season because of a sprained knee. Coyle returned to the lineup last Friday against the Montreal Canadiens, but he re-aggravated the injury and missed Sunday’s game against the Devils.
“Adds a lot to that line,” coach Mike Yeo said of Coyle, via the Star Tribune. “We’ve seen a lot of moving parts on that side, so we get a guy that both Mikko and Zach are not only familiar with … but can help them play at their best.”
The return of Coyle isn’t great news for forward Torrey Mitchell. Mitchell was the feature of a Michael Russo story today in the Star Tribune. He was supposed to join the top line before the Coyle news popped.
Meanwhile, Minnesota’s second line will stay intact. Nino Neiderreiter, Mikael Granlund and Jason Pominville have been red-hot, so much so that Pominville took home the NHL’s First Star of the Week award on Monday.
