The Wild continue to remain in the mix in the Western Conference wild-card race. And Tuesday night’s inched them ever so closer to the final spot.
Vinni Lettieri scored 13 minutes, 4 seconds into the third period for the go-ahead goal in a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
The Wild are six points back of the Los Angeles Kings for the final wild-card spot.
Lettieri’s goal broke a 2-2 tie after Jakob Chychurn tied it up with a power-play goal less than three minutes into the third period. The Wild had a 2-0 lead after a first-period goal from Mason Shaw and a second-period goal from Matt Boldy. But Drake Batherson scored a power-play goal 7 minutes, 43 seconds into the second into the second to make it a one-goal game entering the third period.
Marc-Andre Fleury was stellar in net, stopping 30 of 32 Senators shots in the victory. Joonas Korpisalo stopped 17 of 20 for Ottawa.
The Wild return to action on Thursday when the Colorado Avalanche come to town. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
