The core of young players the Timberwolves are counting on to help lift the franchise back into relevancy will take part in a free open scrimmage next week.
The exhibition will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Target Center, the team says in the announcement. It’s free and open to the public �� doors open at 6 p.m. for season ticket members, and 6:30 p.m. for the general public.
Scheduled to participate: Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, Shabazz Muhammad, Gorgui Dieng, Adreian Payne, Karl-Anthony Towns and Tyus Jones.
The team then heads to Las Vegas for the start of Summer League play. They Wolves open up against the Los Angeles Lakers (and No. 2 pick D’Angelo Russell) July 10 at 7:30 p.m.
That one will be on NBA TV.
The next day, it’s against the Chicago Bulls at 5:30 p.m., followed by a contest with the Utah Jazz July 13 at 9:30 p.m.
After that, all 24 teams participating will be seeded in a tournament that starts July 15. Every team will get at least two more games from that point on, with an eventual summer league champion crowned on July 20.
