Zach LaVine is the defending Slam Dunk Contest champion, and a lot of fans would love to see him square off against his Timberwolves teammate Andrew Wiggins at this year’s contest.
That won’t happen. Wiggins wants nothing to do with a dunk contest. He told ESPN that losing a dunk contest in high school ruined them for him. The contest he’s referring to was the 2013 McDonald’s All-American dunk contest in which he lost to University of Florida recruit Chris Walker.
“My story is, I lost in high school, right when I was in the McDonald’s American Game, so I really don’t do … dunks anymore,” Wiggins said. “I kind of retired that back, left that in high school, so I don’t really do it anymore.”

This year’s dunk contest will be held in Wiggins’ hometown Toronto. LaVine is expected to defend his title.
Wiggins, LaVine and Karl-Anthony Towns will also play in the Rising Stars Challenge on Feb. 12.
