The number one offseason question for the Minnesota Wild is obvious: Who will be the team’s starting goalie next season?
Niklas Backstrom is a 35-year-old unrestricted free agent that will undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia on Wednesday; Josh Harding is under contract, but battling multiple sclerosis; Darcy Kuemper is coming off a rookie season in which he played in only six games.

Ray Emery is going to be a free agent. He’s currently backing up Cory Crawford in Chicago, where he posted a a 17-1 record with a 1.94 goals against average — third best in the NHL.
@JoeNelsonKFAN @Russostrib I'm not a huge Emery guy….awesome numbers this season but I would hold off!

By the time next season begins, the starting job could belong to any of the three goalies currently on the roster. The Star Tribune reports that with a “fuzzy” goalie situation this summer, “it might be best to re-sign Backstrom.”
