Is Justin Jefferson the “old homie” wide receiver Malik Nabers referenced in his now-viral conversation with quarterback Jayden Daniels?
“Y’all never gonna believe this,” Nabers said during an Instagram Live chat with Daniels. “He might be partnering with his old homie.”
“Wow,” Daniels responded. “That’s what you gonna do?”
“I’m gonna let y’all guess,” Nabers said.

Daniels’ reaction gives off some truth vibes. It’s almost like he was shocked Nabers would provide a crumb of inside information. If that’s the case, then it is our duty to try and guess who the “old homie” might be.
Most of the reaction online has been directed at Brandon Aiyuk, the 49ers wide receiver who played with Daniels at Arizona State. Daniels was at Arizona State from 2019 to 2022 before playing the last two seasons of college football at LSU.
Aiyuk’s last year at Arizona State was 2019, so there is some crossover. Aiyuk has also been centered around trade speculation this offseason, so maybe Nabers believes Aiyuk will be traded to a team that will also take Daniels in the draft?
Daniels was not at LSU when Jefferson, or Ja’Marr Chase for that matter, were starring for the Tigers alongside Joe Burrow in 2020. That said, they can’t be ruled out.
What LSU players that Daniels played with in 2022 were drafted in 2023?
- BJ Ojulari, Arizona Cardinals
- Anthony Bradford, Seattle Seahawks
- Jay Ward, Minnesota Vikings
- Jaquelin Roy, Minnesota Vikings
- Kayshon Boutte, New England Patriots
- Jarrick Bernard-Converse, New York Jets
Is it possible that Ward or Roy are Daniels’ old homie? Who knows…
What about Arizona State players drafted in 2020, 2021 and 2022?
Aiyuk was picked by the 49ers and running back Eno Benjamin went to the Cardinals and now plays for the Saints.
In 2021, Arizona State had wide receiver Frank Darby drafted by the Falcons but isn’t currently signed with a team.
In 2022, Arizona State saw running back Rachaad White picked by the Buccaneers; defensive back Jack Jones went to the Patriots; the Giants picked defensive tackle D.J. Davidison; and the Lions selected cornerback Chase Lucas.
Are there any other possible homies? If not, we’ve narrowed the down the list of his former college teammates and where they are now to the 49ers, Vikings, Cardinals, Seahawks, Patriots, Jets, Saints, Bucs, Giants and Lions.
The Patriots seem to make the most sense since they need a quarterback, have the third pick in the draft and one of Daniels’ favorite targets at LSU in 2022, Kayshon Boutte.
