For the second time in their last three games the Twins got a brilliant performance from their starting pitcher, but a lack of offense and a shaky bullpen doomed them to a 3-2 loss to the White Sox Tuesday night.
Joe Ryan held Chicago to just one hit through six innings of work, striking out seven along the way. Within eight pitches, Jorge Lopez had given up a 2-run home run to Eloy Jimenez in the bottom of the seventh to wipe away the Twins’ narrow 1-0 lead.
Nick Gordon would come in as a pinch hitter in the top of the eighth and tie up the ball game with his first home run of the season.

But as the game entered extra innings, Andrew Benintendi drove in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth after outlasting Caleb Thielbar. The game-winning hit by Benintendi is just the second hit Thielbar has allowed to left-handed batter this season.
Louie Varland and Dylan Cease are set to take the mound for the Twins and White Sox Wednesday in game two of the three game series in Chicago. First pitch is set for 6:10pm.
