It just keeps getting worse for the Twins.
On Monday night the Twins were embarrassed by the lowly White Sox, 12-1.
Liam Hendriks was yanked after allowing seven earned runs in the first inning. Actually, he was pulled after recording only two outs. Every Chicago run in the bottom of the first inning was scored on a single or walk.
Sounds like the Twins Way. You know, that style of baseball the Twins used to win with.
But the stats say it’s even worse. Chicago had scored seven runs total in their previous six games (all losses).
Cole De Vries pitched five innings in relief. The only damage he allowed was back-to-back home runs to Adam Dunn and Dayan Viciedo in the fourth inning, and a two-run shot to Jor Danks in the sixth.
Chris Parmelee’s RBI single in the eighth helped the Twins avoid being shutout for the 14th time this season. It was, however, the 18th time this season they’ve been held to one run.
31 games being held to one run or less… that’s 20.8 percent of the games. In other words, they almost get blanked in one of every five games.
