Which of the following stat lines belongs to Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen?
- 68 catches, 984 yards, 4 TD
- 54 catches, 971 yards, 4 TD
- 66 catches, 964 yards, 4 TD
- 68 catches, 960 yards, 5 TD
- 79 catches, 942 yards, 3 TD
- 70 catches, 913 yards, 4 TD
- 57 catches, 848 yards, 6 TD
- 71 catches, 831 yards, 4 TD
- 73 catches, 804 yards, 3 TD
- 78 catches, 1,110 yards, 4 TD
If you guessed number four, you’re correct. It’s pretty amazing that the guy from a Division II college (Minnesota State-Mankato) by way of Detroit Lakes has put himself in the same statistical categories as some of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
Look at who the other players are:
- Player 1 = Mike Wallace
- Player 2 = DeSean Jackson
- Player 3 = A.J. Green
- Player 5 = Golden Tate
- Player 6 = Terrelle Pryor
- Player 7 = Kelvin Benjamin
- Player 8 = DeAndre Hopkins
- Player 9 = Jordan Matthews
- Player 10 = Amari Cooper
Green’s numbers would be much better had he not gotten injured a month ago, but the rest of the guys on the list have been on the field the majority of the season. Cooper has been healthy and a star in one of the best offenses in the NFL in Oakland, but he’s only outproduced Thielen by 10 catches and 150 yards while catching one fewer touchdown.
And then consider that Thielen is making just $600,000 this season. That’s nothing compared to the others:
- Wallace: $3.5 million
- Jackson: $9.25 million
- Green: $13 million
- Tate: $7.1 million
- Pryor: $1.6 million
- Benjamin: $2 million
- Hopkins: $2.4 million
- Matthews: $1.3 million
- Cooper: $5.1 million
Thielen is a restricted free agent this offseason, so the Vikings will likely have to pony up if they want to keep him.
