He’s not thinking about hanging up the cleats just yet, but Adrian Peterson plans to retire as a Viking. Whenever that day comes.
The 34-year-old running back, entering his second season with the Washington Redskins and third season out of Minnesota, was in Hopkins over the weekend for his All Day Elite Camp and made his intentions clear.
“This is where I started; this is where it’s going to come to an end, as well,” Peterson said Sunday, according to Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune.
“People ask me all the time, and they keep throwing me off, like, ‘Where would I retire? A Saint, a Cardinal or a Redskin?’ It’s like, ‘No, I’m going to retire a Viking.’ I was here a decade — some great memories, some everlasting friends. I’m just forever indebted to the state of Minnesota. I’ll definitely be retiring a Viking, for sure.”
Peterson, who turned 34 in March, rushed for 1,033 yards with the Redskins last season and he’s made no indication that his retirement is nearing. In fact, he’s still training like a superhuman athlete.

In 10 seasons with the Vikings, Peterson ran for 11,747 yards and is now eighth on the all time rushing list with 13,318 yards. He’s fewer than 400 yards behind Jerome Bettis and LaDainian Tomlinson, and just under 800 yards shy of passing Curtis Martin for fifth all time.
Peterson and the Redskins visit the Vikings for a Thursday Night Football game Oct. 24 at U.S. Bank Stadium.
