The Percy Harvin project in New York will likely come to an end Monday when the Jets are expected released the former Viking wide receiver, Pro Football Talk reports.
The move will save the Jets about $10.5 million.
After four years with the Vikings, Harvin was traded to the Seahawks following the 2012 season. He spent 2013 mostly injured before helping Seattle win the Super Bowl. Last season, the Seahawks traded him to the Jets for almost nothing – a future sixth-round draft pick.
Harvin, 26, totaled just 483 receiving yards and a touchdown last season.
So what’s next for the mercurial player? Not a peep hints at a possible reunion with the Vikings.
The favorites to land him: Chargers, Packers and Patriots, according to Pro Football Talk. The NFL’s free agency period official opens at 3 p.m. CT Tuesday.
NFL.com adds the Raiders, Eagles and Dolphins to the list of potential suitors.
Monday Morning Quarterback’s Peter King simply feels sorry for Harvin.
“I think Percy Harvin has fallen to earth with a thud, first with the trade for nothing (Seattle will get the Jets’ sixth-round pick in 2015 for giving New York the 2.5-month rental of Harvin last fall) and now with his imminent release by the Jets. Amazing to me that a man who was in contention for the 2012 MVP midway through that season has fallen so far that two receiver-needy teams tossed him away in the span of six months.”
Wonder if Raiders go after Jeremy Maclin or Percy Harvin. They were a big Cobb suitor. Harvin seems like a "Raider type."
