The World Series is over, but David Ortiz is still producing at a high level.
This story, however, has nothing to do with baseball. It’s about the Boston mayoral election, in which Ortiz garnered more write-in votes than anyone else.
560 votes to be exact, according to the Boston Election Department, via WGBH.
The former slugger for the Twins is beloved in Boston and his ranking among all-time Red Sox greats increased after hitting a whopping .688 with two home runs and six RBI in Boston’s World Series victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
He was named World Series MVP.

As the Boston Globe points out, Ortiz won his sixth career Silver Slugger Award on Wednesday. Here in Minnesota, Twins catcher Joe Mauer won his fifth career Silver Slugger Award.
Back to the Boston mayoral election for a second. The winner was Marty Walsh, who received congratulatory phone calls from President Barack Obama and others. Vice President Joe Biden got on the phone with Walsh and started the conversation with, “You son of a gun, you did it!”
Unfortunately for Biden, he called the wrong Marty Walsh. It’s a hilarious story and Huffington Post has the details.
