Twins fans may want to start learning his name. It’s Adalberto Mejia.
Mejia was once considered a long shot at best to make the Twins starting rotation, but Wednesday afternoon he elevated his claim with a truly dominant performance.
Mejia pitched 3.2 scoreless innings against the St. Louis Cardinals. More amazing, of the 11 outs he recorded in the game – 8 of them were strikeouts.

It’s not just one good outing for the young lefty, either.
In fact, among the pitchers in contention for a spot in the rotation Mejia has been one of the best. He has a 0.87 ERA this spring – the only pitcher who’s been better is Ervin Santana.
Mejia hasn’t allowed an earned run since his spring debut on Feb. 25 against Boston.
Minnesota acquired the 23-year-old lefty in a deal at the Trade Deadline deal that sent Eduardo Nunez to the San Francisco Giants.
He along with Nick Tepesch, Ryan Vogelsong, Jose Berrios, Tyler Duffey and Rule 5 draftee Justin Haley are vying for a spot in the rotation.
