Claire Stern hit the game-winning shot as time expired in Maple Grove’s quarterfinal win over Lakeville North in the girls basketball tournament Wednesday.
With just 2.1 seconds left on the clock Maple Grove sent an inbounds pass over the Lakeville North defense. Stern caught the backdoor pass and found herself all alone under the rim for the game winning layup as time ran out to give Maple Grove the 56-55 win at Williams Arena.

Maple Grove had been leading since taking a 5-4 lead early in the first quarter before Lakeville North went ahead with just 27 seconds left in the game.
Next up for Maple Grove is a semifinal match against No. 1 Hopkins Friday at Williams Arena. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
