Thursday night as the Vikings were taking Jordan Addison with the 23rd overall pick, his future quarterback was taking it in live on the Bleacher Report draft show.
“I think he is a natural wide receiver,” said Kirk Cousins when talking about new Vikings receiver Jordan Addison.
“I played with some guys through the years who were great athletes, they can run well, they can jump well, but playing the position of wide receiver just didn’t come naturally to them. You’ll always want that natural receiver over a great athlete.”

“Not to say he isn’t a great athlete,” Cousins was quick to correct. “But a guy who can attack the football with great hands, adjust to the ball well, run great routes, that’s pretty exciting to be able to get that kind of polish right away when he shows up for OTA’s.”
The Vikings needed another wide receiver after cutting Adam Thielen and losing him to the Panthers earlier this offseason. Thielen, in 2022, caught 107 passes for 716 yards and six touchdowns.
“We targeted Justin [Jefferson] a lot last year. For good reason. He’s one of the elite receivers in football but this should help take some pressure off of him, along with KJ Osborn and TJ Hockenson. But the more we can divert coverage away from Justin that’s only going to help Jets with his ability to wreck the game, in a good way.”
Purple Insider’s Matthew Coller said about Addison, “While nothing is a sure thing in the draft, the Vikings made a pretty good bet with a technically sound player who was highly productive in college at two major programs.
“There’s a lot of work up ahead and I think he’s going to love it in our locker room,” Cousins said when asked about his welcoming message to his newest receiver. “He’s going to fit right in. If he’s a worker, if he loves football, if he’s ready to commit to being the best he can be he’s going to be a great fit. Excited to get him out here and see what he can do.”
