Byron Buxton’s season couldn’t be going much worse and the optics were extra ugly when he struck out swinging at a head-high pitch during Wednesday’s game between the Twin sand Braves. Here’s the replay.

Just for good measure, here’s a helpful visual from Baseball Savant to show how far outside the strike zone the fastball from Kolby Allard was.

Buxton entered play Wednesday with a .202 batting average and was riding a streak of 14 straight at-bats without a hit. His strikeout made it 15 straight hitless at-bats, which he ended with a double in his second at-bat Wednesday.
As of this writing, Buxton has six hits in 45 at-bats in June. He had 15 hits in 84 at-bats in May. Add it all up and he’s 21-for-129 since May 1 for a .162 batting average.
