We can take this in three parts.
Improved power numbers aside (16 home runs in the past 10 games), the Twins’ improved pitching explains why they’ve gone 8-2 after a 10-game losing streak.
Part 1: P.J. Walters. He’s the unlikely arm that shut down the Tigers on May 25, ending the Twins dreary 10-game losing streak. Since then, he’s also picked up a win against Milwaukee to improve to 2-0 since his Triple-A call up.
Part 2: Samuel Deduno. Which Deduno will show up on a given night is still a big mystery. Tuesday night, however, the Deduno Twins fans would love to see hang around for a while improved to 2-1 on the year after tossing six shutout innings against the Royals.
Part 3: The Bullpen. In the last 11 games, the Twins bullpen has posted a 0.96 ERA, giving up just four earned runs in 37.1 innings pitched.
Tonight: Walters looks to go 3-0 against a punchless Kansas City lineup that has now lost a franchise-record 11-consecutive games at home.
