After not being claimed off waivers by other clubs, Twins starter PJ Walters now faces the prospect of reporting to his assignment in the Twins minor league system, or opting to become a free agent.
Walters was designated for assignment last week to make room for Mike Pelfrey’s return, and Pelfrey did not disappoint, pitching a gem in his first start back Saturday.
As far as Walters, he made it very clear that he believes he can contribute to another team at the major league level, and didn’t sound like he was thrilled with the idea of heading to the minors.
Now he may not have a choice, and MLB Trade Rumors is reporting Walters intends to accept the assignment, although no decision is official.
