Blair Walsh has signed a contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings, the team announced Sunday.
The kicker signed a four-year deal worth a maximum of $14 million with $5.25 million guaranteed, FOX Sports reports, which makes him one of the top five highest-paid kickers in the NFL.
“I’m extremely excited to be a part of the Minnesota Vikings moving forward,” Walsh, 25, said in a news release. “I’m proud to be able to stay with the team that drafted me coming out of college and I look forward to what is in store for the future of this organization.”
Walsh, who is entering his fourth NFL season, was drafted in the sixth round in 2012 – the third kicker selected in the draft. He had the best debut by a kicker in NFL history, going 12 for 12 in 50-yard field goals in 2012.
Vikings make roster moves
In addition to Walsh signing his contract extension, the Vikings also announced roster moves ahead of the first day of training camp practice Sunday.
- Linebacker Casey Matthews was placed on reserve/injured. He’ll miss the rest of the season after injuring his hip going over a hurdle during a workout, ESPN says.
- Cornerback Josh Robinson was placed on active/physically unable to perform. Robinson had recently injured a pectoral muscle, so this isn’t a surprising move, the Daily Norseman says.
- Defensive tackle Shamar Stephen and wide receiver DaVaris Daniels were placed on active/non-football injury. Stephen apparently has a swollen knee and should be back later this week, ESPN notes.
