While crews cleaned up the wintry mess at Target Field, officials chatted up plans for a Vikings stadium on the other side of downtown Minneapolis Friday.
At the regular meeting of the Minnesota Sports Facilities Commission, held every month at the Dome, the Vikings told commissioners that the design is starting to take shape, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reports.
“We’re starting to get a feel for it,” said Lester Bagley, the team’s veep for public affairs. But that was about all that was unveiled, with Bagley hinting that more details could surface next month.
We know the stadium will have a cover. But aside from that, such issues as parking and how the stadium might integrate into the surrounding properties–or vice versa–are not clear, at least publicly.
The Business Journal also reports that the commission has issued a request for proposal to figure out how to incorporate 2,000 parking spaces within a block of the stadium, something required by the stadium legislation.
Bagley said it will become an “iconic building,” even though no one is sure what it will look like yet. And no word on whether the new Viking’s new digs will let the sun shine in.
“For example, no decision has been made on the possibility of a retractable roof, wall or windows,” the Business Journal reports. “Clearly a retractable feature is something that is important to the team,” Bagley said.
