The Vikings’ playoff hopes aren’t any clearer after Sunday’s 25-16 road win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The game was again an offensive bore for the Vikings with the exception of some much-needed explosive plays, including three of them 40-plus yards in the first half. But it was the same old story at the goal line as Matt Asiata was stuffed on a fourth-and-goal run from the one and he later lost a fumble on another carry at the one.
Minnesota actually trailed 16-12 in the second half after a touchdown pass from Blake Bortles to Bryan Walters, and then a rare one-yard touchdown run by Asiata put the Vikes on top 18-16 and the score stayed that way after Kai Forbath shanked an extra point wide left.
Sam Bradford’s 2-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Rudolph put the game out of reach late in the fourth quarter. Rudolph is now tied with Steve Jordan for the most tight end touchdowns in Vikings history (28).
