The Minnesota Vikings have traded veteran quarterback Matt Cassel and an undisclosed draft pick to the Buffalo Bills for a pair of undisclosed draft picks.
The Vikings confirmed the trade with a statement:
“The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms with the Buffalo Bills to trade Matt Cassel for an undisclosed draft pick. This agreed upon trade cannot be completed until the new league year begins on March 10 at 4:00 p.m. ET.”

While the draft picks exchanged are undisclosed, the Bills did say they “still” have six picks in the upcoming draft. Alex Marvez says the Bills are sending Minnesota a fifth-round pick this year and a seventh-round pick next year, while the Vikings are throwing in this year’s sixth-round pick.
. @buffalobills swap their 1st 2015 5th-round pick for @Vikings 2015 6th-rounder and give Min a 2016 7th-rounder for Matt Cassel @NFLonFOX

Cassel, who turns 33 in May, is due to make $4.15 million in 2015. He threw for 3 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in fewer than three games last season – which was cut short when he suffered a broken foot against the New Orleans Saints.
With Cassel gone and Christian Ponder likely leaving via free agency, Minnesota is done to Teddy Bridgewater at the quarterback position.
Since Christian Ponder is not returning to the #Vikings, they’ll need a backup behind Teddy Bridgewater (duh). Likely a veteran.

The group of available veteran free-agent quarterbacks isn’t very appealing. Some of the names include: Josh McCown, Brian Hoyer, Mark Sanchez, Michael Vick, Colt McCoy and Jake Locker, among others.
Minnesota can also add a signal-caller in the Draft.
