It might be a longshot, but Adrian Peterson may still have a shot at breaking the Eric Dickerson’s all-time single-season rushing record — if the Vikings can scour up some errors by the NFL’s official statisticians.
According to the Pioneer Press, Vikings coach Leslie Frasier said Monday that the team is going to try and find “hidden yards” to put Peterson over the top, adding, “If we can find nine yards, we’re going to find them.”
Peterson finished with 2.097 yards Sunday in the Vikings’ 37-34 win over the Green Bay Packers to secure the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoffs — nine shy of the amount needed to break Dickerson’s mark of 2,105, set in 1984.
Unearthing the nine extra yards will be tough since the NFL’s official statisticians with the Elias Sports Bureau review discrepancies every week, a league spokesman said, according to the Pioneer Press.
Peterson, who has rushed for more than 400 yards this season against the Packers, will get a chance to do some postseason damage against the team when they face-off Saturday in the NFC’s first wild card match-up of the weekend.
