Teddy Bridgewater will be throwing passes to an improved group of pass-catchers this season, and Adam Thielen hopes he’s part of the Vikings wide receiver corp.
Mike Wallace will make the team and likely break camp as the team’s No. 1 receiver. Charles Johnson, Jarius Wright and Cordarrelle Patterson also appear to be locks to make the team, and ESPN’s Ben Goessling believes rookie fifth-round pick Stefon Diggs should make it, too.
That’s five receivers, meaning Thielen, a Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, native and former Minnesota State-Mankato standout, needs to either win a spot or hope the Vikings keep six receivers, Goessling says.
“I’m going to try and get the biggest possible role I can on this team, and whatever the coaches decide is going to be my role, I’m going to do my best with that,” Thielen said.
To prepare for training camp Thielen has taken some recent time to join Larry Fitzgerald for his annual workouts at the University of Minnesota.

Thielen’s role with the Vikings in 2014 was primarily on special teams. He was targeted as a receiver just 13 times and he caught 8 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown, according to Football Reference.
Vikings Journal has a view of other potential training camp position battles the Vikings could see. It advises fans to watch for a battle in the slot receiver position between Charles Johnson and Cordarrelle Patterson, along with these two intriguing possibilities.
- Left cornerback: If rookie Trae Waynes doesn’t start, veteran Josh Robinson could.
- Left end: Vikings Journal says Scott Crichton has a realistic chance to supplant Brian Robison as the starter.
Training camp begins in Mankato July 25 with the first day of practice Monday, July 26.
