The Vikings announced today that head coach Mike Zimmer has agreed to a contract extension with the team.
How long? The Vikings aren’t saying, but general manager Rick Spielman did say Zimmer will be their head coach for a “long time.”

“Mike has instilled a very positive atmosphere over the past three years and our players have thrived under his tutelage and leadership,” team owner Zygi Wilf said in a statement. “His focus on helping our players develop and maximize potential, individually and collectively, is critical for our current and future success. We believe the continuity established with Mike leading our football team is a very positive step for our organization.”
The Vikings went 7-9 in Zimmer’s first year only to launch into the playoffs after an 11-5 regular season last year. And he helped turn one of the NFL’s worst pass defenses in 2013 into one of the best in the NFL.
