Chim Okorfor is the newest member of the Minnesota Vikings. The team announced his signing on Monday, also noting that tackle Jacky Chen has been released to create room on the 90-man training camp roster.
The 6-foot-6, 320-pound offensive tackle was an NAIA All-American at Benedictine College in Atchinson Kansas. The NAIA is comparable to Division III college sports, with high-end NAIA teams perhaps being on a level similar to quality Division II teams.
Okorafor was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles this past spring as an undrafted free agent. He was with the Eagles in training camp before being released last week.
The 24-year-old will provide depth on Minnesota’s offensive line, though it’ll likely require some impressive performances to earn a spot on the 53-man roster or the practice squad.
Okorafor doesn’t appear to be related to Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Chukuma Okorafor, who played for P.J. Fleck at Western Michigan before Fleck was named head coach at the University of Minnesota in 2017.
On Sunday, the Vikings signed journeyman linebacker Tanner Vallejo while releasing linebacker William Kwenkeu with an injury designation. Vallejo has 82 games of NFL experience since being drafted in the sixth round in 2017 and he’s racked up 114 tackles and 2.5 sacks in his career.
