With backup quarterback Nick Mullens dealing with a back injury, the Minnesota Vikings have signed former Minnesota Gophers quarterback Tanner Morgan to the practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Morgan was released during the preseason by the Pittsburgh Steelers, having signed as an undrafted free agent. He has been back in Minnesota working as an offensive analyst and helping the Gophers develop redshirt sophomore quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis.
The severity of Mullens’ back injury is unknown. He was listed on Wednesday’s injury report as “limited.” For now, Morgan joins Kirk Cousins, Mullens and rookie Jaren Hall in the quarterback room.
