Twelve players have agreed to sign on to the practice squad with the Minnesota Vikings. All 12 were with the Vikings during training camp and the preseason before being released ahead of Tuesday’s deadline to trim the roster from 90 to 53 players.
The 12 practice squad players are:
- Alan Ali, C
- C.J. Coldon Jr., CB
- Sheldon Day, DL
- Lucky Jackson, WR
- Trishton Jackson, WR
- DeWayne McBride, RB
- T.J. Smith, DL
- Thayer Thomas, WR
- Luiji Vilain, OLB
- Benton Whitley, OLB
- Jaylin Williams, CB
- Joejuan Wiliams, CB
McBride was the odd man out when the Vikings elected to keep running backs Alexander Mattison, Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu on the active roster. That group also now includes Myles Gaskin, who is reportedly signing with the Vikings as a free agent.
Vilain and Whitley had really strong preseason performances and flashed solid pass rushing abilities. Joejuan Williams, a former second round pick by the Patriots, nearly made the 53-man roster but appeared to just miss the cut behind second-year cornerback Andrew Booth Jr.
Trishton Jackson was on Minnesota’s practice squad last season and impressed to the point that he was in the conversation to make the roster as one of five or six wide receivers.
