Minnesota Vikings running back Racean “Roc” Thomas was arrested in January and charged with felony fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.
According to a criminal complaint filed Feb. 28 in Dakota County District Court, Thomas was arrested after police searched his residence in Mendota Heights following multiple complaints to building management about the smell of marijuana coming from his apartment.
Officers approached his door around 2:25 p.m. Jan. 16 and smelled a strong odor of marijuana, and upon entering they found Thomas inside with another unidentified man.
A search of the master bedroom turned up multiple glass jars containing suspected marijuana along with more containers holding marijuana wax, in addition to a vape pen, which police say is commonly used to ingest marijuana wax.
Police also discovered $15,802 in a nightstand next to the bed.
More containers of marijuana and marijuana wax were found in the living and TV rooms, along with other drug paraphernalia and documents with Thomas’ name on them.
In all, police confiscated 143.28 grams of marijuana and 6.69 grams of marijuana wax.
Thomas said he was aware of complaints made to building management and told investigators that all of the narcotics belonged to him.
Thomas denied selling the drugs.
The 23-year-old running back was fourth on Minnesota’s depth chart in 2018 having spent time on the 53-man roster and the practice squad before being placed on injured reserve.
“We are aware of the charges filed against Roc Thomas and have expressed our disappointment directly to Roc for his actions,” the Vikings said in a release provided to Bring Me The News. “We will respect both the legal process and the NFL’s disciplinary process.”
