Vikings GM Rick Spielman is among the flock of NFL talent evaluators at NDSU’s pro day in Fargo on Friday, and NDSU just so happens to be the home of one of the NFL Draft’s top-rated quarterback prospects: Trey Lance.
According to WDAY’s Taylor Budge, “almost all” 32 NFL teams are represented at the Bison Pro Day to see Lance, offensive tackle Dillon Radunz (Becker High School in Minnesota) and cornerback Marquise Bridges.

It’s not clear who exactly Spielman is most interested in, but the Vikings are likely in the market for Kirk Cousins’ eventual replacement, and getting offensive line help will certainly be a goal, especially after Minnesota released starting left tackle Riley Reiff.
Most mock drafts have Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson as the first two quarterbacks off the board in the April 29 draft, followed by Justin Fields, Lance and Mac Jones. It’s possible that all five quarterbacks are draft in the first round, perhaps even in the top 15 picks.
The Vikings hold the No. 14 selection in the draft, meaning Lance could easily be a target if Minnesota feels the need to take a quarterback that early.
Lance, a Marshall, Minnesota native, threw for 2,786 yards, 28 touchdowns, and zero interceptions as a redshirt freshman in 2019. He also ran for 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns while helping NDSU claim its eighth FCS National Championship in the past nine seasons.
NDSU’s 2020 season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic, though Lance did play in NDSU’s exhibition game against Central Arkansas in September.
