Veteran wide receiver Greg Jennings was released by the Minnesota Vikings Saturday, one day after the team acquired Mike Wallace in a trade with the Miami Dolphins. The Vikings made the announcement in a one-sentence post on their website.
Jennings came to the Vikings two years ago from the Green Bay Packers, after Minnesota tried but failed to sign Wallace at that time, according to the Star Tribune.
Jennings signed a five-year deal worth $47.5 million at the time, and speculation about his future with the Vikings was swirling after the Wallace trade occurred.
The Star Tribune called Jennings’ performance with the Vikings “solid” but not spectacular, while the St. Paul Pioneer Press said he “underachieved.”
He caught 69 passes for 804 yards and four touchdowns in 2013, and was 59 for 742 yards, with six touchdowns, last season.
That compares with Jennings’ time in Green Bay, when he had three straight 1,000-yard seasons and the Packers won the Super Bowl after the 2010 season.

Jennings was due to earn $8.9 million this season, according to the Pioneer Press.
