Some not-so-big Vikings news Tuesday as the team announced contract agreements with nine players that finished the season on the practice squad.
The following players were officially signed to reserve/futures contracts.
- Justin Anderson, linebacker
- Kain Colter, wide receiver
- Pat Devlin, quarterback
- Isame Fasiane, defensive tackle
- Donte Foster, wide receiver
- Zac Kerin, center
- Jordan McCray, guard
- Ryan Otten, tight end
- Dominique Williams, running back
Viking Update notes that signing practice squad players to futures contracts is a common practice that allows the team to continue analyzing the developing talent.
Minnesota’s best practice squad story of 2014 was the arrival of Charles Johnson. The former practice squad player for the Browns unseated Cordarrelle Patterson to become one of Teddy Bridgewater’s favorite targets over the final seven games of the season. Johnson finished with 31 receptions for 475 yards and two touchdowns.
Johnson appeared on the Christmas edition of “Beyond the Gridiron,” telling the story of his NFL dream coming true. It’s a motivating, inspirational video; definitely worth a few minutes to watch.
