The Minnesota Vikings trade for P.J. Hall fell through on Tuesday, one day after the Vikings acquired the defensive tackle from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Hall, a third-year lineman out of Sam Houston State, was a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft that fell out of favor with the Raiders and was about to be cut before the Vikings acquired him for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2021.
After Hall failed the physical, the Raiders officially cut Hall on Tuesday afternoon per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The news of Hall’s failed physical is another blow to the interior of the defensive line that saw free-agent acquisition Michael Pierce opt out of the 2020 season last week. The Vikings tried to fill that hole with Hall, but obviously that won’t be the case.
The Vikings also received more bad news in the middle as second-year defensive tackle Armon Watts was placed on the COVID-19 list, which means he either tested positive for the virus or has been in contact with someone who has.
The Vikings are not permitted to disclose if Watts has tested positive, but it’s clear they will need help in the middle of their defensive line.
After the NFL declared that the contracts of all players that have opted out will have their prorated bonus carried over to the 2021 season, it’s possible they could turn to the free-agent market to add a player such as Damon “Snacks” Harrison on Domata Peko in the coming days.
