History’s hotly anticipated series “Vikings” debuted to a 6.2 million viewers on the cable channel Sunday night, and as it turns out, the show’s Ragnar bears little resemblance to the Minnesota Vikings’ mascot, Ragnar.
Ragnar, the main character in “Vikings,” is played by Australian actor Travis Fimmel, while the Ragnar the mascot is played by Joseph Juranitch — who has been entertaining crowds at Vikings home games since 1994.
Of course, the History series has nothing to do with the Vikings football club, but it’s fun to make comparisons nonetheless.
For those who didn’t tune into the series premiere Sunday night, “Vikings” follows the adventures of Ragnar, his band of Viking brothers and his family, as the fearless warrior rises to become King of the Viking tribes. Neal Justin of the Star Tribune talked with Fimmel about the role.
So, if you were to match up “Vikings” Ragnar vs. the Vikings’ Ragnar, who would win? Please leave your comments below.
No matter who you choose, you have to admit it’s nice to watch some Vikings action on Sunday again — even if it’s just a TV show.
