Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was named the the NFL Rookie of the Week for Week 13.
Bridgewater was one of five players nominated for the award. He was selected after completing 15 of 21 passes for 138 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday’s win over the Carolina Panthers. Bridgewater posted a career-best passer rating of 120.7.
According to ESPN, Bridgewater completed 71.4 percent of his passes Sunday. It was an important bounce back game for Bridgewater after he threw an interception and struggled with his accuracy early in the game against Green Bay a week earlier.
“He can do all of the things he needs to do to be an outstanding quarterback in his league,” Vikings offensive coordinator, Norv Turner, told reporters Thursday. “Like most young guys, there’s going to be some ups and downs, but his lows have not been as low as a lot of young guys I’ve been around and he continues to get better.”
It was Bridgewater’s second straight game with two passing touchdowns. Over his last five games, Bridgewater has seven touchdowns and just two interceptions.
Bridgewater connected with Kyle Rudolph on the team’s opening drive on a four-yard touchdown pass. Later he orchestrated an 11-play, 80-yard drive and found Greg Jennings on a 17-yard touchdown.
At the end of the season, five players will be nominated for the NFL’s Rookie of the Year Award. Fan voting for the honor will take place in January and the winner will be announced at the 4th Annual NFL Honors awards show in Arizona the night before Super Bowl XLIX.
