Matt Cassel and Brandon Fusco are done for the season. The Vikings announced Wednesday that both players, who were injured in Sunday’s loss to the New Orleans Saints, have been placed on season-ending injured reserve.
Cassel broke multiple bones in his left foot and Fusco suffered a pectoral muscle injury.
According to the Pioneer Press, the Vikings filled the two roster spots by bringing tight end Chase Ford and offensive lineman Austin Wentworth up from the practice squad. They also signed quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson and tight end Ryan Otten to the practice squad.
Counting Adrian Peterson, who is away from the team dealing with a legal issue, the Vikings have lost four key starters on offense in the last two weeks. Kyle Rudolph underwent sports hernia surgery on Tuesday and is expected to miss about six weeks while his abdominal injury heals.
Vladimir Ducasse took over the right guard position after Fusco went down last week. With Cassel out, rookie Teddy Bridgewater is now in control of the offense with Christian Ponder moving up to No. 2 on the depth chart.
