It’ll be the Zimmer-Zimmer-Patterson defensive collaboration for the Vikings in 2020 as the team announced Tuesday that Adam Zimmer and Andre Patterson have been promoted to co-defensive coordinators.
Zimmer, the son of head coach Mike Zimmer, was previously the linebackers coach while Patterson has been the team’s defensive line coach. Zimmer will also continue to be the primary coach for linebackers while Patterson maintains oversight of the defensive line.
All in all, the expectation is that Mike Zimmer will continue to call the defensive plays as he’s done every season since taking over as head coach in Minnesota.
Meanwhile, the Vikings made Gary Kubiak’s role as offensive coordinator official. He’ll continue to serve as the assistant head coach to Mike Zimmer, as he did last year, his first with the Vikings.
In other coaching transitions, the Vikings hired Daronte Jones to be defensive backs coach. He’s been a defensive backs coach with the Dolphins and Bengals in the NFL, and with the Wisconsin Badgers at the college level.
Phil Rauscher, who was the offensive line coach for the Washington Redskins during the final 11 games of the 2019 season, has been hired as Minnesota’s assistant offensive line coach.
And last but not least, Andrew Janocko has been named the wide receivers coach. He helped coach Minnesota’s offensive line last season. He’s previously coached tight ends and was a backup quarterback/holder at the University of Pittsburgh.
