The Minnesota Vikings made it official Wednesday.
The team placed Teddy Bridgewater on inured reserve – just one day after a gruesome knee injury in practice ended the quarterback’s season.
Bridgewater tore his ACL and dislocated his knee Tuesday on a non-contact injury.
According to Pro Football Talk, teams can hold off on designating a player to return thanks to a rule change this season, but the player must be placed on IR after the team cuts to 53 players.
Since there was no hope of Bridgewater returning this season, the Vikings didn’t want to lose the roster spot, so Teddy will be on the shelf officially until 2017.

To fill the roster spot, the Vikings re-signed Brad Sorenson a day after he was released as part of the team’s mandatory roster reduction from 90 to 75 players.
Sorenson, 28, was originally drafted by the Chargers in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Southern Utah.
Sorenson spent most of his first three seasons in the league on the Chargers practice squad, he also was on the Titans practice squad for a short stint in 2014.
The Vikings host the Los Angeles Rams Thursday night in their preseason finale.
