Win or lose Sunday against the Saints, the Vikings will undoubtedly be coached by Mike Zimmer in 2020, with Rick Spielman also expected to return as general manager.
The vote of confidence came via a public statement issued by team owners Zygi and Mark Wilf on Friday.
“We value Mike and Rick’s leadership and we have every intent of Mike continuing as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings and Rick leading our football operations, next year and beyond,” the owners said, according to Pro Football Talk.

Zimmer’s future in Minnesota was clouded this week after the Dallas Cowboys reportedly parted ways with head coach Jason Garrett. Multiple reports suggested Cowboys owner Jerry Jones could be interested in offering the Vikings a trade to get Zimmer back in Dallas, where he was the defensive coordinator during the Cowboys’ dynasty in the mid-1990s.
Not only that, but Zimmer is 1-2 in the playoffs in six seasons as Minnesota’s head coach. A loss Sunday to New Orleans would drop him to 1-3, with the lone victory requiring the “Minneapolis Miracle” to beat the Saints in 2017.
The Vikings and Saints kick off at 12:05 p.m. Sunday.
