Jared Allen and his agent haven’t been contacted by the Vikings about a contract extension, according to ESPN.
The news comes 24 hours after Brian Robison signed a 4-year contract extension and Everson Griffin admitted that he’s been in contract talks with the Vikings. Both defensive lineman figure to be part of the team’s future plans.
Allen’s not sure if he’s part of the Vikings’ future plan, but he’s not upset that contract talks aren’t happening.
“I’m in a situation where I’ve been blessed, I’ve been taken care of. The Lord’s been good to me,” Allen said. “And that’s where I leave it. Where I’m going to be at is totally up to Him. That’s not a stressor on my mind.”
Allen will be 32 in May, and he’s playing out the final year of his contract ($14.3M this season). While he’s not shocked the Vikings haven’t come calling, he’s happy that Robison got a new deal.
“Let’s be honest, this is a business and we are expendable,” Allen said, as reported by the Star Tribune. “You just look at our team right now, guys are in and out. You look at the NFL, it’s a revolving door. So any time anybody can get paid and provide for their family for a long time, I’m happy for them. And Brian’s a good player and a friend of mine, a good teammate. So yeah, absolutely, I’m ecstatic for him. I wish he would have gotten more.”
