The Vikings received somber news following the MRI of backup running back Bishop Sankey on Friday; the roster-hopeful tore his ACL and will miss the entire 2017 season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport.

Sankey was showcasing his versatile skills as a runner and pass-catcher in Thursday’s preseason 17-10 Vikings win in Buffalo. Sankey carried the ball four times out of the backfield while also hauling in four passes through the air.
However, when he got twisted up in the second half of the game, Sankey did not pop up to his feet. He remained on the ground in visible pain while the Vikings athletic training staff tended to him.
As many fans feared, the somber news of a torn ACL was made public about 20 hours after the game ended.
Sankey, just 24 years old, was battling for a roster spot in a crowded-yet-talented Minnesota backfield that currently features three virtual ‘locks’ to make the team in Dalvin Cook, Latavius Murray, and Jerrick Mckinnon.
In an injury-riddled career, Sankey’s best season came in his rookie year with Tennessee after the former second-round draft pick ran for 569 yards and two touchdowns.
