Now that the NFL Draft is over the Vikings are working out some finer details of player contracts, and they have until the end of Monday to exercise fifth-year options on their three 2013 first-round picks: Xavier Rhodes, Sharrif Floyd and Cordarrelle Patterson.
The Vikings have already come to agreements with Rhodes and Floyd, meaning they’re under team control through 2017. The Star Tribune is reporting that Patterson’s option won’t be picked up.

Patterson scored 9 total touchdowns (2 returns, 4 receiving, 3 rushing) as a rookie but has since fallen flat with back-to-back underwhelming seasons. Last season, Patterson remained effective as a kickoff returner but he had just 2 receptions for 10 yards. His fate a returner could be jeopardy with the NFL moving touchbacks from the 20 to the 25-yard-line next season, Pro Football Talk adds.
Patterson barely saw the field as the fifth receiver on the depth chart last season behind Mike Wallace, Jarius Wright, Charles Johnson and Adam Thielen. Wallace is gone but the other three are back along with draft picks Laquon Treadwell and Moritz Boehringer.
