Throughout his career, Russell Wilson has tormented the Minnesota Vikings. With a 6-0 career record against Minnesota, Wilson has made executing a game-winning drive during a primetime game in the rain an annual part of the Vikings’ schedule.
While Wilson’s heroics are a tradition the Vikings would like to avoid, there’s a chance it becomes a bi-annual occurrence.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Wilson has begun seeking out potential trade destinations after his relationship with the Seattle Seahawks has deteriorated. Wilson’s preferred destinations include the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders, and the Chicago Bears.
Of the four destinations, the Bears are the most intimidating for the Vikings. With Chicago residing in the NFC North, the Vikings would face Wilson twice which means two instances of Wilson evading two pass rushers, running back about 20 yards, and throwing a strike off his back foot to lead Chicago to victory.
Such a scenario seems far-fetched, but it’s also terrifying to know that he would instantly become the best quarterback in Bears history ahead of Sid Luckman, Jim McMahon, and Jay Cutler.
Wilson’s displeasure stems from a report from The Athletic that says Wilson “stormed out” of a team meeting last season after suggesting ways to fix the offense. Although Wilson wound up with 4,212 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions last season, he wanted to do more which spawned the “Let Russ Cook” movement.
As the Seahawks finished 12-4 on the season, they lost in the first round to the Los Angeles Rams, which spurned Wilson to criticize his offensive line earlier this month.
Whatever happens, the Vikings are hoping that Wilson and Pete Carroll can settle their differences over a stick of Doublemint gum. Otherwise, Mike Zimmer will have another obstacle against the Bears, who have won five of the past six meetings with the Vikings.
